January Experiments

 I am getting a little frustrated with my painting skill.  I have been trying to paint things posted on challenge sites, but I haven't felt like I am able to do them.  I made a few attempts which I didn't finish before the deadline.  Where does all the time go??

This one was for Rookiepainter.  http://rookiepainter.blogspot.com/  Couldn't get the face right for the little boy and basically gave up.  Oh, well.

Next site that had a challenge that I attempted was the Paint and Draw Together site  http://paintanddrawtogether.blogspot.com/

Then I tried to do a couple of abstract paintings just experimenting with colors.  These are with oils.  I am thinking maybe I should experiement with acrylics. 

This final painting I worked on a little this month was for the site "A Nos Pinceaux".  http://defis-de-peinture.blogspot.com/  Love her photographs and paintings.  Had a bit of trouble doing the vase, couldn't get the roundness correct.  Another one I say I will go back and finish....

This painting is for the Studio Atalier website monthly challenge for December.  I gave up after a bit.  I get tired of working on a painting.  Oils take to long.  I think I need to switch to acrylics so I can stay focused.  I got a bit discouraged this month.  Oh well this is a journey and there will be bumps in the road.  I am signing up for a basic painting class.  I think I need some training. 

I started an abstract painting that I liked in an Art book I got for Christmas.  Maybe this will work better for me.  Just looking at the one above I see things, many of them that need work.  The ribbon, the rim of the vase, the table......  Here is the beginning of this one

I also tried this one for Rookie painter site for January.  I will keep working on this one since my attention span has not run out yet.  Need to get the background going, just did a rough in of the basic color and firm up the details of the glasses and put in the glass highlights and shadow of glass on the background.

Whoops, I turned it without turning it, need to figure out how to upload photos through Picasa Web Albums.  Project for tomorrow.

December 2010 Painting Projects

Well, I think I got a little carried away this month with the posted painting challenges.  I just started painting a few months ago, have limited skill and thought I could do 5 different paintings within the first 2 weeks of December.  Needless to say, most remain unfinished.  I will post what I have done, just so I can keep track of my progress and look back in months or years to come and say "WOW, have I come a long way!!".

Here is my Rookie Challenge submission for the month. 

One of the items I did not complete in time is for Paint and Draw Together.  It is a rose....never have painted a flower before or leaves....tough, very tough to get the greens correct.  Would like to fix the background and make the rose more accurate.  Oh, well, next time.

 I also tried to paint the December Challenge for A Day Not Wasted.  This was a beautiful photograph of Central Park in the Fall.  Need to do a bit with the trees above the bridge and the light posts.  I will keep working on it a little bit.  I have a limited amount of attention span.  Will have to come back to it later.
