I started an abstract painting that I liked in an Art book I got for Christmas. Maybe this will work better for me. Just looking at the one above I see things, many of them that need work. The ribbon, the rim of the vase, the table...... Here is the beginning of this one
I also tried this one for Rookie painter site for January. I will keep working on this one since my attention span has not run out yet. Need to get the background going, just did a rough in of the basic color and firm up the details of the glasses and put in the glass highlights and shadow of glass on the background.
Whoops, I turned it without turning it, need to figure out how to upload photos through Picasa Web Albums. Project for tomorrow.
What else for this month. Want to sketch the new Studio Atalier Architectural post for the month. See right side bar for the link to that sight.
I hope you are still trying and not giving up. That is the most important “skills” an artist could possibly have. The rest will come from persistent practice, observation and practice again.
ReplyDeleteI looked at your blog and resent work you have posted there. One great thing I noticed is that you can “see” the form and outlines. All objects are very well captured by the shape and major masses. This is a real good beginning of every painting. What else is missing? You need to train your eye to see:
the real color (chroma/intensity, grayness)
the color values (the level of grayness)
the form of the objects (outline, highlights, middle tone, core shadow, shadow, cast shadow, reflected light)
Try to find all these terms explained in Google and pick a small single still life object to practice with. All this is foundation of the Flemish oil painting technique. Maybe you can try to paint an apple following the instructions from this site http://www.artpapa.com/html/Free_Lessons_Green_apple.html and do not give up since the process will teach you more than any art class and will take at least 3 months (yes to complete just this small painting). I wish you all the best. Lela
